Reading naskah sering dianggap formalitas, lalu digelar di ruang rapat kantor atau kafe di sela jadwal lain. Padahal di reading, dialog yang sulit diucapkan, adegan yang terlalu panjang, dan talent yang belum paham karakternya bisa ketahuan. Apa yang terjadi di reading

Di reading, semua talent duduk bersama dan membaca naskah dari awal sampai akhir dengan suara keras, sementara sutradara mendengarkan. Tujuannya bukan akting penuh. Tujuannya menemukan masalah sebelum hari syuting: kalimat yang janggal, adegan yang terlalu lama, atau karakter yang dipahami berbeda oleh talent dan sutradara.

Reading biasanya gagal karena tiga hal. Ruangannya bising sehingga peserta tidak saling mendengar, pesertanya tidak lengkap, dan catatan sutradara hilang karena tidak ada yang merekam.

Studio 3 atau Studio 1

Pilih Studio 3 untuk reading dengan pemain dan kru inti; ruang ini sudah kami pakai untuk reading naskah, workshop, dan live streaming. Pilih Studio 1 kalau reading melibatkan seluruh kru, atau kalau tim klien perlu ruang sendiri selama reading berlangsung.

Studio 3 tidak termasuk client room. Ini mengikuti halaman harga, yang berlaku kalau halaman lain menyebut setiap booking mencakup client room. Bila tim klien butuh ruang terpisah, client room tambahan bisa dipesan per 12 jam mulai Rp850 ribu, dua hari sebelum reading. 

Empat hal yang perlu disiapkan

1. Satu meja, semua wajah terlihat.

Kursi yang dideret menghadap depan membuat talent membaca ke punggung orang lain. Susun meja berbentuk U atau satu meja panjang, sutradara di ujung, dan setiap talent duduk dekat lawan mainnya. Table and bench set sudah termasuk sewa, jadi Anda tidak perlu membawa meja.

2. Rekam suaranya dari halaman pertama.

Catatan sutradara sering hilang karena semua orang sibuk membaca. Taruh satu perekam suara di tengah meja, mulai rekam sebelum halaman pertama, dan catat menit setiap kali sutradara menghentikan bacaan. Rekaman itu jadi bahan revisi naskah dan bisa dikirim ke kru yang tidak hadir.

3. Hitung durasi setiap adegan.

Untuk iklan, naskah yang dibaca melewati durasi spot tidak akan muat saat editing. Minta asisten sutradara memegang stopwatch dan mencatat durasi per adegan dengan tempo bicara normal. Adegan yang kelebihan waktu dipotong di naskah, bukan di ruang editing.

4. Sambungkan peserta yang tidak bisa datang.

Klien atau penulis naskah yang sedang di kota lain bisa ikut lewat video call. Wi-Fi dan LAN tersedia di setiap lantai gedung; sambungkan laptop untuk panggilan lewat LAN supaya koneksinya tidak berebut dengan ponsel peserta. Pasang satu mikrofon meja supaya suara semua orang di ruangan terdengar jelas.

Yang sudah termasuk dalam sewa

Kami menyewakan ruangnya, sedangkan peserta, kru, dan alat rekam Anda bawa sendiri. Selain listrik dan internet, sewa Studio 3 mencakup dua lampu Godox SL 60 (tergantung ketersediaan), green screen, valet service, dan smoking area di rooftop. Kalau syuting Anda nanti memakai green screen, sisa jam sewa setelah reading bisa dipakai untuk mencoba kostum di depan green screen itu.

A Script Reading Venue in South Jakarta for 25 People

Shooting Star Studio rents out Studio 3 in Pondok Labu for script readings, a room of about 80 m² for 15 to 25 people. Rental starts at IDR 2 million for 6 hours, including 5,000 W of electricity and 50 Mbps dedicated 1:1 internet.

A script reading is often treated as a formality, held in an office meeting room or a café between other commitments. Yet a reading is where hard-to-say lines, overlong scenes and talent who don't yet understand their character come to light. Fixing them at the table costs less than fixing them on set, where crew and equipment are paid by the hour.

This article is for directors, assistant directors and producers preparing a reading for a short film, a series or an ad. We first explain what happens at a reading and why it often fails, then how to choose a room, and four things to prepare.

What happens at a reading

At a reading, all the talent sit together and read the script aloud from start to finish while the director listens. The aim is not a full performance. The aim is to find problems before shoot day: awkward lines, scenes that run too long, or a character that talent and director understand differently.

Readings usually fail for three reasons. The room is noisy so participants can't hear each other, people are missing, and the director's notes are lost because nobody records.

Studio 3 or Studio 1

Choose Studio 3 for a reading with the cast and core crew; we have already used this room for script readings, workshops and live streaming. Choose Studio 1 if the reading involves the whole crew, or if the client team needs its own room while the reading runs.

Studio 3 does not include a client room. This follows the pricing page, which applies where another page says every booking includes a client room. If the client team needs a separate room, an extra client room can be booked per 12 hours from IDR 850,000, two days before the reading.

Four things to prepare

1. One table, every face visible.

Chairs lined up facing forward make talent read to the backs of other people's heads. Set up a U-shaped table or one long table, with the director at the end and each talent seated near their scene partner. A table and bench set is included in the rental, so you don't need to bring tables.

2. Record the audio from page one.

Director's notes often get lost because everyone is busy reading. Put one audio recorder in the middle of the table, start recording before page one, and note the minute every time the director stops the read. That recording becomes material for script revisions and can be sent to crew who weren't there.

3. Time every scene.

For an ad, a script that reads longer than the spot won't fit in the edit. Ask the assistant director to hold a stopwatch and log each scene's length at a normal speaking pace. Scenes that run over are cut in the script, not in the edit suite.

4. Connect the people who can't come.

A client or scriptwriter in another city can join by video call. Wi-Fi and LAN are available on every floor of the building; run the call laptop on LAN so its connection doesn't compete with participants' phones. Set up one table microphone so everyone in the room is heard clearly.

What the rental already includes

We rent the room, while you bring the participants, crew and recording equipment. Besides power and internet, Studio 3 rental covers two Godox SL 60 lights (subject to availability), a green screen, valet service and a rooftop smoking area. If your shoot will use a green screen, the remaining booked hours after the reading can go on trying costumes in front of that green screen.

For meal and prayer breaks, the building has a canteen and a prayer room.
